A Colorful Visit to the Ara Project – A Macaw Rescue Center in San Jose

A few months ago I wrote an article for Nature Landings about the Ara project – a rescue project located outside of San Jose. (But not for long! They are moving to Punta Islita.) The project is downright incredible, and god bless the people running it. They rescue hundreds of green and scarlet macaws, which are perhaps some of the loudest creatures on the planet. It’s so chaotic in the bird sanctuary that to work there is truly a labor of love.

When the parrots are ready for release, boy is it worth it. Visit their website for more information, or to make a donation. http://www.thearaproject.org/
